Here are some ideas for putting these one-way fares to use:
Create your own open-jaw itinerary to visit more cities during your trip. For example, take the one way into Fukuoka, then take the shinkansen to Osaka, then Kyoto, then Tokyo. Then take the one-way out of Tokyo.
Use points for the return trip. If you don’t quite have 120,000 points laying around, you can buy the one-way to Fukuoka with cash, and then buy the return out of Tokyo with points. This is usually cheaper than trying to do a “cash-and-points” redemption by itself.
